A policeman has gone missing in Waat town of Bieh State since Saturday, an official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the Waat County Commissioner, Isaac Pur Ruot said Sergeant Juma Gatluak mysteriously disappeared on his way to neighbouring Yuai County.
“He left Waat town for Yuai County but while on his way he phoned us that he was ambushed, but he escaped with a wound on his legs. But as we later tried to phone him to locate his place, we found out that he was under custody of unknown people. We are not sure if those are the same people who ambushed him,” Pur explained.
“Since Saturday evening, the policeman could not be reached as his phone was off and his whereabouts remain unknown,” he said.
The local official further said security forces were dispatched to the surrounding villages, but the policeman is yet to be found. “We do not know if the same group is still holding him hostage,” he said.
Pur called for the immediate release of the police officer.
