Armed men shot dead a policeman and wounded a woman Monday night in Tonj East County in South Sudan’s Warrap state.
County commissioner Chol Madol told Radio Tamazuj that the unknown gunmen from Tonj North County attacked Wunpiem near Nabagok.
“The situation is clam, but yesterday night at 10 pm criminals from Tonj North came and killed a corporal in prison service at Nabagok area and wounded a woman in the right leg,” he said.
Chol said he reported the incident to the state government and the Tonj North commissioner on Tuesday.
The top county official said six people from Tonj East had raided Tonj North on 1 November and stolen over 30 cattle. When the owners from Tonj North tracked the cattle, a gun battle erupted, with one Tonj East youth named Angok Ngong Angok killed. One Tonj North resident was also injured and the cattle were recovered.
On 21 September, there were deadly clashes when Tonj East youth crossed into Tonj North.
