A policeman was shot and killed by unknown assailants in Southwest Maban County in South Sudan’s Northern Upper Nile State, an official said.
The incident happened on Monday morning.
Northern Upper Nile governor Thon Beny Thon told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that gunmen attacked Bangketa village and killed a policeman.
“The policeman was working in Jamam area,” he said.
The newly appointed governor pointed out that security forces were dispatched to Kilo 10 and Bangketa areas, following insecurity incidents.
Mustafa Mansur, the paramount chief of the Maban tribe in Northeast Maban County, confirmed that a policeman was killed in Bangketa area.
The traditional leader, who formerly served as county commissioner, called on the state government to resolve land disputes between communities in the state.
