Armed men opened fire at a policeman in Wau town, resulting in his death, a local official said.

The deceased was identified as Gasim Abdalla Dahiya.

Wau State Security Adviser Anthony Charles Ngberende said armed robbers shot and killed Gasim at Hai al-Salam Saturday night.” Sergeant Gasim was killed by criminals. He was a committed policeman,” he said.

The government official further said one suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident. Ngberende pointed out that the security situation was stable in the town of Wau. “The security situation is stable in Wau, but there are criminals in the area,” he said.

The security adviser called on citizens to help police in providing information for crimes.
