A policeman was killed and another wounded during intercommunal clashes that occurred in Rumbek Centre County of Lakes State, local officials said.
The incident happened in the area of Cuei-Adukan on Monday.
Martin Maciec Kuc, the Secretary General of the defunct Western Lakes State, confirmed the incident, saying security personnel are searching for armed youth involved in the clashes.
He identified the deceased as Gai Maper and the wounded officer only as Atem. "The attackers were unknown youth,” said Maciec.
The local official, however, said the situation had returned to normal.
Makuei Jiny Akec, an area community leader, confirmed the incident. He urged rival sections in the area to desist from revenge attacks.
According to previous reports, the routine of intercommunal clashes in many parts of the country prevails due to lack of an efficient justice system.
