Policeman, civilian killed in Jonglei road ambush

A senior police officer and a civilian were killed and another civilian wounded in a road ambush carried out by a group of armed men in Duk County of Jonglei State on Sunday, officials said.

A senior police officer and a civilian were killed and another civilian wounded in a road ambush carried out by a group of armed men in Duk County of Jonglei State on Sunday, officials said.

John Chatim, Duk County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the three men met their fate at the outskirts of Duk Pagak town while returning to Uror County after attending a marriage ceremony. 

“On Sunday afternoon, a group of seven men was heading to Uror from the Pagak area where they had attended a marriage ceremony. Reaching a place called Wangkachuol, they were ambushed by five people, including four armed men. So, two of them were killed and one injured," John Chatim explained. 

The commissioner pointed out that the rest of the men escaped unhurt but the assailants ran away.

Uror County Commissioner Tang Chatim, said: “The incident has shocked us in the county. We lost a police 2nd Lt. called Nyok Mabil Tor, we also lost a young man called Duoth Chuol while Luol Chuol was wounded."

For his part, Lt. Col. Gatbel Machar, Uror County police inspector said no one was arrested in connection to the incident after the youth tried to pursue the attackers.
