Police authorities in Torit State say that the security forces have collected 11 guns in the town of Torit during an operation started on Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the state police spokesperson, Mathew Ochan said a joint security force carried out house-to-house searches in Torit town looking for weapons. He pointed out that the operation is part of a targeted disarmament exercise aimed at combating crimes.
The police officer disclosed that they managed to collect 8 AK-47 rifles, three G3 guns, two hand grenades and ammunition.
Ochan pointed out that those found in possession of firearms will be investigated. He explained that the disarmament exercise came after the state cabinet discussed the security situation in Torit town. The police spokesman says the searches could continue in hotspot areas.
