Western Bahr El Ghazal State’s new police commissioner says that three million South Sudanese pounds for June salaries of all his forces in the state went missing before he assumed office, the Catholic Radio Network reports.
General Peter Mading Malual, who took office last week, “holds his predecessor Akot Deng Akot and accountants responsible,” saying they have to be investigated.
He clarified that he is only responsible for July salaries, which he says his forces already fully received. The commissioner advised his forces to remain calm while he channels their grievances through a peaceful means.
Mading cautioned the police against taking the law into their hands, saying he is hopeful that the lost money would be recovered.
The former police commissioner, who has been transferred to Aweil, could not be reached for comment.
