Police report increased robberies on roads to Juba

Central Equatoria State police have deployed patrols along the Juba-Yei and Juba-Mundri roads after reports of increased insecurity along the routes, according to a top police official.

State Police Commissioner Maj Gen Henry Danima says security is being stepped up after police noted an increase in highway robberies targeting buses and commuters along the two roads.

“In Mundri road, we sent a force because we got information that in Kula-Hadeed, in Kula and Rokon there are people stopping cars and rob their mobiles and money but no killings but robbing only,” he told the UN radio service yesterday.

“We sent a patrol but when they see police car they sneak to the bushes. They stop cars which no police inside it. Our patrol went up to Rokon and came back. They got a lot of complaints from citizens but did not find any thieves. This is what's giving us headache but we did not record any killings in the last two weeks,” said Henry.

The officer also reported that in the last three days, two motorbikes have been stolen from riders in the Munuki and Gumbo areas of Juba.
