The Eastern Equatoria State Government announced they have started an investigation into the 13 police officers who were on duty last Sunday when 19 massacre suspects escaped from Torit Prison.
The officers were arrested earlier this week and are now being questioned in Torit over how the suspects escaped, according to State Minister of Information Mark Oken Bol.
Bol told Radio Tamazuj: “No one [of the suspects] have been arrested until now but the government is coordinating to make sure these suspected criminals are arrested.”
The escapees, from Loronyo, were originally taken in for their alleged involvement in an ambush on a vehicle from Idali going to Torit for a funeral. 24 people, including women and children, were killed in the attack.
Oken said that the government will make sure the escapees are re-arrested.
