Police officer’s body found in Torit Town river

The body of a 59-year-old police officer identified as Sgt Clement Ladu was found floating on Kineti River in Torit Town on Thursday.

Reports said Sgt Ladu had been missing since last week, before his body was found floating under the Khor Moloto Bridge.

Eastern Equatoria Civil Defense Assistant Director for Safety and Disaster Management, Lt Kennedy Khamis, told the media that the body was found at 6:40am.

“This police officer disappeared one week ago. His name is Sgt Clement Ladu, 59, and he was residing in Hai Longute,” he explained.

Khamis cautioned against the unnecessary crossing of Kineti River this rainy season, and against the excessive consumption of alcohol.

“People living across the bridge, especially children, should avoid the Kineti River especially during heavy rains,” he said.

The State Police Commissioner, Maj Gen James Monday Enoka, confirmed the incident and sent his condolences to the family of the late officer.

He described his death as a big loss to the police and a gap that would be hard to fill.

The Medical Director at the Torit State Hospital, Mustafa Lokuru, ruled out suicide.

On August 10, a 48-year-old widow and mother of six, identified as Angelina Lakwac Solomon, was found drowned in the river in Torit town.
