Unknown gunmen killed a police officer and wounded his wife in South Sudan’s Lakes State last week, a local official said.

The incident occurred in Cueibet County last Friday.

"A group of armed youth attacked a house in Cueibet town on Friday night, killed a police officer and wounded his wife,” Zechariah Mamer Thokgor, the county executive director said on Wednesday.

He identified the deceased as Mading Deng, adding that the injured is receiving treatment at Cueibet Hospital.

"The suspects are at large but they are being followed by the security personnel,” Mamer explained.

He pointed out that the security situation is now calm despite Friday’s incident.
