A police officer was shot dead by his colleagues at the South Sudan National Police Service headquarters this morning in Buluk, Juba after he attempted to kill a senior police officer by shooting at him.
Fortunately, Major General Azuma Mangar Chep, the police head of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and the director of the Emergency Call Centre, Azuma Mangar, escaped unhurt.
South Sudan police spokesperson, Major General Daniel Justin, confirmed the incident to Radio Tamazuj today and said the motive behind the incident is not yet known.
“Yes, it was actually at 7:30 am when one of the warrant officers attacked the Director of the Emergency Call Centre “777” at his office in the police headquarters here in Juba. But he missed him and the director managed to escape and the other forces who were around shot at the attacker and killed him,” he stated.
Maj. Gen Justin says according to preliminary investigations, the two did not quarrel before the incident and have shared cordial relations in the past.
“The initial investigation shows that there was no quarrel between the director and the officer. According to the director, the officer used to greet him in his office every morning and sometimes asks for some money for tea. So, we don’t know what happened," he added.
Sources at the police headquarters said the deceased who was in his fifties, attacked the director while he sat outside his office. After missing his target, other police officers demanded that he hand over his gun but he refused and they shot him dead.
The police say they are still investigating the matter.
Last month, a bodyguard of an army general attempted to kill his boss at the military headquarters-Bilpham over unclear circumstances.
