Police authorities in Bor town of Jonglei State say one of its officers was injured by an armed suspected robber in the town on Sunday morning.

“The incident took place at 3 AM on Sunday when the officer tried to rescue his neighbor from an armed robber. So, as a result, he sustained gunshot wounds on the chest,” Major-General Joseph Mayen Akoon, the state police commissioner told Radio Tamazuj.

Mayen pointed out that the injured officer, identified as Deng Garang Mabior, is receiving treatment at Bor hospital, while no arrests have been made.

“So far, no suspect is arrested. But the suspect left behind his gun during the encounter with the injured officer,” he said.

Bor has seen a rise in crime in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a woman was killed while her husband was injured when they were attacked by armed robbers.
