South Sudan’s Gogrial State authorities say 3 people were killed during a clash between law enforcement agents and armed men on Sunday night.
Amet Amet Kuol, the information minister of Gogrial State told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the three have been identified as part of a criminal gang known as ‘Tiang’ who have been terrorizing the citizens of the state.
He said the clash happened while police were doing their night patrols.
“The security forces were pursuing the criminals and killed three of them and also injured some of the criminals. Those killed are Aguaak, Makat and Longar. This happened in former Gogrial East, Apuk county,” Amet said.
Tiang criminal gang has been accused of killing one civilian and injuring one other last month. Amet further noted that the members of the group have escaped from detention severally.
“According to the constitution, anyone who does not obey the law is a criminal. There is a law that all citizens should hand over their arms to the government. These people engaged the security agents with arms,” Amet asserted.
The minister warned the youth whom he says are the ones involved in armed crime to raid cattle, kill civilians and steal property to reform for the sake of security in the state.
