An investigation over Tuesday’s killing of a couple and injuring of another man during an attack by assailants at the victims’ residence in the Jonglei State capital, Bor town, is ongoing, the police said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Major Majaik Daniel Tuor, the state police spokesperson, said a manhunt for the suspects is ongoing and that an arrest will be made soon.
“On Tuesday at 8 pm, some people attacked a couple who were residing at a former Oxfam compound. The man was shot dead instantly. The following morning the wife was also found dead behind the house while another man who was sharing the compound with them was injured,” he said. “As the police, we are now investigating the incident. Hopefully, we will bring the culprits to book soon”
The police officer called on the aggrieved families to be calm as an investigation continues.
“This incident is not a revenge killing. So, I am killing on the Soth Sudanese not to politicized it because if you see those killed and the injured come from different states,” he stressed.
For his part, John Samuel Manyuon, the Jonglei information minister, described the incident as isolated and that it was being handled.
“The attack is not on ethnic basis as many may perceive. The spouse killed are from different tribes. The woman is from Fangak, married to someone from Bentiu and is said to be having 4 children at the PoC in Bentinu. And she happened to have an affair with the late Bingo (the man),” he said.
