Police give updates on security situation

The South Sudan National Police Service said Thursday the general security situation was calm and stable, with only minor offenses registered in the past 24 hours.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Maj Wilson Simon Lith said the incidences recorded included a civilian in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, committing suicide by shooting himself.

Lith said the Criminal Investigation Department reports indicated that the gun used by the deceased was acquired through illegal means.

Another incident, she said, involved a 30- year-old civilian, name withheld, who was attacked and killed by unidentified men in the Imtidad Residential Area of Renk County in Upper Nile on October 2. In another incident, a civilian, also name withheld, was attacked and killed by suspected criminals in Thoura residential area in Renk on October 2.

Maj Lith said a 52-year-old man was killed by a man in Makuacdong village of Kuc North Payam, Gogrial West County in Warrap State on October 3, and an inter-communal armed conflict erupted between the Akop and the Thiet of Luanjang of Nabagok Payam, Tonj East County, on October 2, and according to criminal investigation, the lives lost and the injuries in the incident had not been assessed.

She said no major incidences had been reported in Juba, with an exception of a case at the Nimira Talata Residential Area where a South Sudanese, Abubaker Mealu, 49, was allegedly killed by a suspect. The suspected killer also injured another individual, Ahmed Abaker Mohammed, 27, using a panga and a knife.

Maj Lith said the police responded promptly to the incident, and the injured victim was swiftly transferred to the Juba Teaching Hospital and the police arrested the suspect. She added that a criminal case had been opened at the Central Police Division in Malakia and an investigation was ongoing.

She urged the South Sudanese and foreigners living in the country to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station.
