The police in Mundri West County of Western Equatoria State is holding two drivers involved in two separate accidents in which two people died while three others sustained injuries.
According to the police, the two drivers hit two people dead in Ketiba Payam and Mundri West 1 on Tuesday, February 23.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Lt. Double Seven Clement, a police officer in charge of legal affairs in Mundri West, says the two drivers are in custody waiting for trial.
"We have a principle that when the victim is under treatment till the person recovers, then the victim will make a statement and then we send the case to the court for final judgment so all the drivers are kept with us here in the police in Mundri," he said.
Clement urged citizens to adhere to traffic rules. He said, "I would like to advise all the drivers including the riders when they are driving on the road they should not drink while driving and talk on the phone. Anyone found doing that will be punished. Citizens should also take care of their lives on the road when they see a car they should leave the road to the car."
Meanwhile, a relative of one of the victims, Voice Chance Phellemon, says they demand compensation for the deaths.
"When the incident happened we did not harm the drivers. All the relatives met and opened a police case. What we want is that the drivers cater for the funeral costs and pay compensation for the deaths," he added.
