Police in Wau say the assassination of Paramount Chief Angelo Baggari and his wife last week was politically motivated.
Acting Police Commissioner Deng Malual said in a cabinet briefing Tuesday that they have found a suspect who left a letter demanding that the state governor step down, Voice of Hope radio station reported.
The alleged letter also reportedly demanded the pay back of the three million South Sudanese Pounds which was meant for June police salaries but disappeared.
Menawhile, the late chief’s elder wife Teresa Acin said she suspects her husband’s promotion to paramount chief shortly before his killing motivated the assassination.
Arkangelo Kunda Ugali, the chief’s village colleague and a neighbor, attested that the late chief Baggari was a good man who was encouraging people to cultivate to avert hunger.
