Police in Juba have arrested 7 suspects allegedly specialized in stealing vehicles in Juba.
South Sudan’s Police spokesman Major General Daniel Justin told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the suspects arrested this week are believed to be part of a car theft syndicate.
“We have arrested 7 people who are involved in stealing vehicles and we also recovered 5 stolen vehicles. All these gang members are South Sudanese,” he added.
He said investigations into the gang have been launched and the search for more vehicles is on-going.
The police official said despite relative calm after the peace celebrations last week, there are pockets of small crimes happening within the town.
In other news, Justin revealed that the ban on tinted vehicles still stands.
A communiqué from the police headquarters on Wednesday directed all traffic policemen not to arrest any vehicles with light and rear tinted glasses, saying the vehicles are imported from Japan with the tint. It also directed the traffic police to release all impounded vehicles with rear tint to their owners with immediate effect.
“The tinted vehicles are illegal. No tinted vehicles will be allowed to enter through our borders. Those that are already here we will find a solution to it,” he said.
