Police have arrested an editor working for the Arabic daily Al Wahida for allegedly criticizing them, before releasing him on Monday afternoon. Police arrested the editor and detained him for five hours before releasing him, sources said.
South Sudanese police were upset with an article written by Obec Otor in his column on 29 August.
The article was critical of the police academy under the theme “Has Police College become a stronghold for tribal associations?”
Police reportedly threatened a case against him under the penal code.
Otor who was released at 3PM thanked his colleagues for standing with him in his case.
“I have been released few minutes ago,” he informed friends on his Facebook page.
