Police in Mingkaman of Awerial County, Lakes State have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing a one-month-old baby on Monday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the police chief inspector in Mingkaman John Bol Tiar said the suspect was arrested during a search by police after the case was reported.
He said the suspect now in police custody was arrested after keeping the baby for three days.
"The one-month-old child was stolen from the mother when she was drunk and was sleeping. The child was stolen on Saturday but our security forces managed to get the stolen child on Monday. Now, we have arrested the suspect and she is being investigated," said Bol.
The police official pointed out that the mother of the stolen child is from the Aliap community while the suspect is from the community of Bor IDPs in Mingkaman.
He urged the communities involved to remain calm as the matter is handled by the police.
"We don't want anybody to get involved in this matter. This is a criminal act committed by an individual. It does not concern anyone and it is being handled and investigated by the police authority since the suspect is found and is now in police custody with us here," Bol warned.
