The police in Rumbek town of Lakes state have detained a 19-year-old girl as they probe her boyfriend’s death.
The man was allegedly shot dead in the wee hours of Tuesday by the girl’s relative after spending the night with the girl in Arauhic village.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, police investigator Martin Machiec said: “I went to the scene of the accident with police soldiers in a pick-up and we brought a girl alleged to have had an agreement to sleep with a man at her house at night. She is now under investigation in police custody.”
Machiec said the suspect is at large and investigations into the murder have been launched.
“It is not clear who killed her boyfriend among her relatives, but the police are investigating the killing because it is said that it occurred after he spent the night with the girl,” he said.
The deceased was identified as Anyar Yic-Ngar from the Boor section of Malek Payam of Rumbek Central county while the girl in detention is from the Gaak section of Rumbek North county.
Attempts to reach Rumbek Central County commissioner Dut Manak were futile.
