At least seven men suspected of carrying out criminal activities in Bor town of Jonglei State have been arrested, police say.
In recent weeks, Bor has seen a rise in crimes. In two separate incidents, a businesswoman was killed and her husband injured, and a police officer wounded during night robberies in the town.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Major Majak Daniel Tuor, the state police spokesperson, said the armed suspects were arrested on Saturday during the ongoing crackdown in Bor.
“We are at the moment having seven suspects in our custody. They were arrested on 19 September. Up to now, we are still looking for more suspects,” he said.
“Because of those suspects are armed, they claim they are soldiers. We are contacting the SSPDF units they claimed so that we get their identity. So, probably by next week, we will have winded up our investigations,” Majak explained.
The police official appealed to the victims of the robberies to be patient as the law takes its course while urging Bor residents to cooperate with police in fighting crimes.
