The security forces in Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Wednesday dispelled rumors of looming conflict in Wau and reassured citizens of security and stability.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Western Bahr el Ghazal State Police Commissioner Major General Abinego Akol Ayuong said the state is peaceful.
“At the level of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, all counties and internal borders of the state, I want to assure the public and all civilians that the state is stable,” he said. “Those who are saying that there is insecurity in Wau, this is baseless.”
For his part, SSPDF Fifth Infantry Division Commander Major General Yel Mangok urged the citizens to go about their duties without fear.
“Let all the citizens in Western Bahr el Ghazal State and all citizens of the Republic of South Sudan understand that Western Bahr el Ghazal State is under peaceful stability, let them not fear because we are approaching farming season,” he said. “We need all citizens to go and prepare their farming areas without fear. We are all united, and this is why we are moving together with SPLA-IO Major General Peter.”
Gen. Mangok called on the citizens to provide information related to criminal activities for quick intervention by the security forces.
On Tuesday, the government heads of security forces together with the SPLA-IO commanders held a joint security meeting focusing on working together.
