The South Sudan National Police Service has announced a special security plan to maintain law and order in the wake of clashes in Juba and ahead of the Christmas holiday.

Policemen who misbehave will be immediately tried at a special police court in Buluk. The city is divided in five zones each headed by a Major General of police.

Spokesman of the Police James Mandi Anoka said this afternoon at a press conference that people should enjoy a quiet and safe Christmas day.

“We will specially look at the behavior of police officers – drunkenness in uniform will be considered a serious crime. Any use of force will be strictly proportional. Any inappropriate shooting will be punished accordingly,” he explained during the press conference.

He provided the population with the direct numbers of police commanders, including the following: 0917003014, 0913293938, 0914549889.

The police will also be active “in the field of traffic management, protecting the international community and protection of vital government installations.”
