Pochalla official urges UNHAS to resume its regular flights after suspension

The commissioner of Pochalla County in Boma State has urged the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), managed by the World Food Programme (WFP), to resume its regular flights to the county every Tuesday.

The commissioner of Pochalla County in Boma State has urged the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), managed by the World Food Programme (WFP), to resume its regular flights to the county every Tuesday.

The UN aid flights to Pcohalla were suspended after SPLA soldiers in the area briefly detained a WFP aircraft and its crew last week.

Speaking during a funeral service conducted in Juba on Sunday, Commissioner Jay Adingora Alual asked the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) to resume its operations in the area.

Multiple sources in Pochalla said many local residents called on the government to hold the SPLA soldiers accountable for obstructing aid workers in the area.

Pochalla is a hard-to-reach area with no good roads linking it to other areas in South Sudan.

Attacks on aid workers and obstruction of their work have contributed to a dire humanitarian situation affecting millions of people in the country.
