Pochalla County of South Sudan’s Boma State received Malaria drugs last week following an acute shortage of medicines in the whole county, a state official said.
Jay Adingora Alual, the commissioner of Pochalla, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that they have received a shipment of medicines. “We received drugs on 8 September, after Pochalla citizens have stayed for a long period of time with no drugs in all health facilities in greater Pochalla,” Alual said.
The official pointed out that the drugs were received from the national ministry of health with support from International Medical Assistance and USAID, saying the delivery of the drugs comes after nearly 15 months of drug shortages in Pochalla County’s health facilities.
Alual appealed to health Non-Governmental Organizations to help support nurses in the county saying they welcome even volunteers from the community.
“Though there are no NGOs supporting nurses here since June 2016, we hope that nurses will volunteer themselves to help their fellow citizens,” he said.
Last month, a child was reported dead due to malaria in Pochalla due to lack of medication.
