A man was killed and another one injured in an attack on a village in Pochalla County, Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) on Wednesday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Owety Olung, the acting county commissioner, said armed men suspected to have come from Pibor were involved in the attack.
“This morning (Wednesday), some Murle youth attacked Buoy village in Awetaballa Payam killing a man and injuring another one. They were repulsed but no one died from their side,” he said.
Olung suggested the attackers might have carried out the raid with the aim of abducting childern.
Charles Wello Onyony, an Anyuak lawmaker in the National Legislative Assembly, condemned the attack and called for government intervention.
For his part, John Abulla, the deputy GPAA chief administrator, said he was not aware of the incident.
“This information has not been shared with us here in the headquarters,” Abulla said. “But we will talk to our security guys there to update us if it is true.”
