Respiratory problems and malaria account for most of all hospital visits in Kapoeta County of Eastern Equatoria state, a medical doctor said.

Speaking on Radio Tamazuj’s Health Programme on Thursday, Dr. Mustafa Lokuru, the Kapoeta Civil Hospital director said the health facility records nearly 60 malaria and 25 pneumonia cases daily.

“According to the data, people confirmed by the laboratory to be having malaria were ranging from between 50 to 60, while for Pneumonia, the cases were ranging from up to 25,” he explained.

Lokuru pointed out that the rising cases of pneumonia and malaria diseases could be due to the cold and rainy session.

“Negligence at home is another issue. Sometimes, children in villages are not covered with clothes when the weather is cold,” he said.

The medical director warned parents against exposing children to health risks.
