The National Examinations Council (NEC) has cancelled the results of 134 candidates from four primary schools in Jonglei State’s Fangak County, citing serious breaches of examination rules and regulations.
Speaking during the 20th Extraordinary Meeting to announce the 2024 Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) results on Tuesday, NEC Secretary-General Simon Nyok Deng said the decision affects candidates from Kweryong, Beer, St. Peter and Paul, and George Bow primary schools.
“The council has taken serious steps in cancelling 134 examination results,” he said. “These results come from four schools, all in Fangak County, where candidates were found in serious breach of examination rules and regulations.”
Nyok reaffirmed NEC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the national examination process and warned that similar violations in the future will be met with strict disciplinary measures.
The cancellation comes as the Ministry of General Education released the long-awaited 2024 CPE results, over four months after candidates sat for the national exams. Out of 77,264 pupils who sat for the exams nationwide, 3,938 failed.
Central Equatoria State emerged as the top-performing region, with students from Juba Christian Center (JCC) dominating the national rankings. Felix Luwala and Moses Jerry Achire, from JCC’s Hai Negil and Model primary schools, respectively, scored 453 out of 500 marks, topping the chart with a 90.6 percent pass rate.
Minister of General Education Kuyok Abol Kuyok said English Language, Science, and Christian Religious Education were the most successfully passed subjects, while Mathematics and Islamic Religious Education continued to show poor performance.
To address subject imbalances, the minister pledged renewed efforts in teacher recruitment and training to ensure better curriculum delivery in underperforming areas.
