Warrap State government has banned the use of plastic bags to prevent environmental pollution.

Information Minister Paul Dhel Gum said plastic bags pollute the environment and can kill livestock, Voice of Hope reported.

He said citizens should use paper or long lasting baskets instead and that anyone caught bringing plastic bags into the state will be penalized.
