James Benjamin, mayor of Raja in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state, has unveiled a plan to split the county into four administrative areas.

Benjamin told Radio Tamazuj that Raja would be divided into three new counties called Ringi, Ere, and Uyujuku, with Raja town administered as a separate municipality.

Benjamin said their proposal has been submitted to the presidency. He added that the plan is not new, saying the Western Bahr el Ghazal parliament previously approved a proposal to split up Raja.

Raja is the largest county in South Sudan. It is one of three counties proposed to be part of the so-called Lol state along with two counties of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.
