Ch’iang Wei agriculture company has announced that it will supply pork to Juba, making the meat more readily available in the South Sudanese capital city. The company is already raising pigs at Luri in Central Equatoria State.

In an interview on Thursday, Johann Praeg, the managing director at the company’s ‘Freedom Farms’ site stated that the production of pig meat near Juba was underway. “We have just registered our abattoir and meat processing facility last week with the department of animal and fisheries,” he said.

“We have obtained official permits to slaughter pigs and sell meat products to the public and this will commence the week after Easter,” he added. Among the products to be sold are pork loins, minced pork, meatballs and pork patties.

Daniel Mabeny, a University of Juba student doing his practical research at the farm, said he appreciated the opportunity to learn from the new project.

“I’m doing my research here undertaking a research graduation project on prospects for pig industry in in South Sudan, potential and constraints. I have love of pig production and I have read a lot about pig production in different parts of the world and in Africa at large,” said Daniel Mabeny.

Praeg, managing director, disclosed also that they have ambitions to also expand beyond pig farming: “We do have the future expansion plans especially for the Luri area. We will expand into raising broiler chickens as well as adding some talapia to our local dams, and then possibly maize production at Bama in the area of Bama village.”

“And then we see what the future holds – it is all depending on the situation and how the expansion goes,” he explained.

Chi’ang Wei Company was founded in 2010 and its CEO is Daniel J. Deng. According to a factsheet provided to Radio Tamazuj, the company is also involved in the oil sector.
