Mongolian peacekeepers under command of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have deployed in Leer County in South Sudan’s Unity state last month.
The deployment is the first semi-permanent presence of UNMISS peacekeepers in southern Unity state. UNMISS is mandated to protect civilians from violence and to monitor and report on human rights abuses in South Sudan, among other tasks.
