South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has promoted seven major generals in the National Police Service to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Speaking at the promotion ceremony, Inspector General of Police Pieng Deng Kuol urged the officers to work hard in their new role promoting a people friendly environment.
“Our role as the law enforcement institution is to provide security to the citizens and their properties by giving them adequate protection and combating crimes,” he said. “This means that we must be friendly to the citizens so that we are able to get information through cooperation but we also must show tough face to tackle crimes.”
The promoted officers are:
