Authorities in Pibor County of South Sudan’s Boma State have warned against possible inter-communal clashes between local communities over cattle thefts in area.
Pibor County Commissioner Simon Geng told Radio Tamazuj that local youths in various neighbouring counties usually move to Boma State in this particular month every year for cattle raiding, which he said could cause fighting among local communities.
The local official said the relevant authorities are ready to introduce measures to counter this criminal activity.
He said they informed the state authorities about the matter so that they act in an attempt to avoid any possible fighting between the local communities over cattle.
“We informed our governor, our governor knows. I think he talked to the authorities there,” said Simon. “He is the one who can take the initiative to solve this problem because it is a national issue, it is the national government to solve the problems of its people, as a commissioner I can’t solve it.”
