Pibor clashes terrify population

Clashes between soldiers and rebels that were to join the army spread fear among Pibor residents on Sunday.

On Saturday, the leaders of the Murle community met in Pibor to discuss the reintegration of David Yau Yau and his rebel group into the SPLA.

Yau Yau’s deputy, General Kurubin, was also in Pibor to rejoin the SPLA with a number of rebels.

Local sources told CRN that there was a discussion between Kerubin’s men and soldiers in the market ending up in a shootout.

2,400 people took refuge in the UNMISS compound.

Pibor County in Jonglei State has been the scene of constant confronts between the army and rebels.
