Authorities in Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) headquarters, Pibor town, said they received seven abductees from their Jonglei State counterparts Monday.
The former abductees; five children and two women were abducted during inter-communal violence in parts of GPAA two years ago.
GPAA Deputy Chief Administrator John Abulla told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the abductees are under his custody pending reunion with their families.
“Yesterday (Tuesday), I received five children and two women from Jonglei State authorities,” he said. “They are now in my house because we have to follow some procedures before we could reunite them with their families.”
Abulla applauded the Jonglei state authorities for the recovery and handover and that they would emulate the same move for peace to prevail in the troubled greater Jonglei area.
James Bol Makuey, the Nyirol County commissioner, said the abductees were recovered in the county’s Waat Payam.
“The five children include two boys, all of whom are less than seven years. We also recovered three women but one woman was not among those we handed over because she just gave birth,” he added.
The county official however called on GPAA to curtail recurring Pibor youth attacks because it will derail peace.
Nyany Korok, a Pibor town resident, welcomed the Jonglei State government’s move saying it will help build trust among the locals.
