Western Bahr al Ghazal State won a landmark handball tournament in South Sudan’s capital on Thursday after a hard-fought win over the team from Central Equatoria.
The final game of the Independence Cup ended 16-9 in favour of the Western Bahr al Ghazal Women (wearing blue). Central Equatoria (in white) had won their earlier match against Western Equatoria to advance to the final.
The women of Western Bahr al Ghazal lifted up the trophy after the three-day tournament, giving their state something to celebrate. Participants from Western Equatoria and Central Equatoria were also honoured for their participation.
