Photos: Sudanese refugees celebrate World Refugee Day in Juba

The plight of refugees around the world was highlighted on June 20, which was proclaimed World Refugee Day by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

The capital of South Sudan hosts thousands of refugees, especially from the Sudanese states of Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile. According to the latest UNHCR data Central Equatorial State hosts 7,188 refugees from Sudan, 8,792 from Congo and 2,456 from Ethiopia.

"On World Refugee Day, I call on the international community to intensify efforts to prevent and resolve conflicts, and to help achieve peace and security so that families can be reunited and refugees can return home.” – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
