Photos: One killed in Nuba Mountains bombing

A warplane killed a woman and injured several other civilians in Heiban village in South Kordofan on 27 September 2012.

The bombs fell at 10:30 a.m. on market day, which happens every Thursday drawing crowds from all over Nuba. Six civilians were badly injured in the bombing and 1 woman was killed, according to reporter Yassin Hassan of NubaReports.org.

Photos provided by Nuba Reports show the victim killed in the attack. Asia Khari, the victim, was cultivating a peanut farm when only 200 meters from the center of the market when the Sudanese warplane arrived. She was killed by two bombs.

Another photo shows a boy wounded in the attack. Manasa Yagoub, the son of Heiban pastor Yagoub Ibrahim and a relative of the dead victim, was also hit by shrapnel from the bombs. His grandmother was also wounded.

A third picture provided by the reporter shows a crater of a bomb that hit within 100 meters of the market.

The attack happened the same day that Sudan signed a series of agreements with South Sudan on oil, security and other issues. Nuba Reports suggested that the timing was deliberate.
