South Sudan’s Petroleum minister said they have not incurred any losses because of oil spills from a ruptured pipeline in Northern Liech State.

“Oil leakage is a normal thing. It happens because this pipeline is ageing. From time to time, you will find some spills here and there,” Minister Awou Daniel Chuang said on Monday.

A team from the Petroleum ministry has gone to Budang County to stop the oil leakage, he said.

 “The government has not incurred any losses, the production is going on well and the losses are not quantified yet,” he explained. 

On Sunday, a South Sudanese lawmaker expressed concern over a crude oil leakage from a ruptured pipeline at the Rodriak area of Budang County.

Jibril Tap Gatjiek, a lawmaker representing Rubkona constituency in the national legislative assembly, said though the immediate cause of the oil leakage could not be ascertained, local residents said it was noticed on September 24.
