People’s Liberal Party leader says peace agreement will only bring temporary peace

Peter Mayen Majongdit the leader of South Sudan opposition People’s Liberal Party’ said the peace agreement may not lead to permanent peace because the international community focuses too much on the warring parties.

“The international community has given much focus to the armed groups instead of democratic parties,” he said. “Unless we learn democracy instead of rebellion and dictatorship, South Sudan will not be governed based on the agreement.”

Majongdit called on the international community to change their strategy of listening to war-politicians instead of the citizens of South Sudan.

“Apparently the country is held hostage by leaders with arms with no indication of willingness to reforms and render even the basic services citizens need, elements that put democracy first,” he said. “The leaders and parties to the agreement must understand that power comes from people and its express through people in a democratic process of election…power resulting from armed opposition or peace agreements can only serve temporary purpose.”

“Otherwise we shall also be governed by one agreement after the other which result from continued sufferings of our people,” he said.
