Pending food shortages in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile states

The Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWS-NET), which provides evidence-based analysis of possible food shortages, is warning of acute food insecurity for people in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile states. They blame the food shortages on “protracted conflict” and predict it will affect both internally displaced people and host communities.

FEWS-NET is also warning that, because of late rainfalls this year many crops were planted late and there is a possibility of crop failure in Kassala, Gadaref, North Kordofan, North Darfur, East Darfur and Sinnar states. Tens of thousands of people could be affected.
