A meeting was held recently between local authorities in Pariang County of Unity state and Sudanese pastoralist leaders from the Fallata nomadic tribe, a Sudanese pastoralist said.
Sheikh Musa Osman, a pastoralist at the meeting, told Radio Tamazuj that the meeting focused on availing grazing sites for the Fallata tribe in the county as well as peaceful coexistence between host community and Sudanese pastoralists during the dry season.
The sheikh pointed out that the local authorities welcomed them in the area. He said that the pastoralists are currently starting to migrate into the area.
He further said the meeting also touched on the issue of taxes that will be collected from them by the local authorities.
For his part, the administrative officer in Pariang County Simon Achuit Kueth welcomed the Fallata nomadic tribe in the area, recalling the ‘historic’ relations between the tribes.
Simon, who is also head of inter-border relations and peace building committee, said the issue of taxes will not be settled until it is approved by the state cabinet.
