A two day peace conference took place in Rumbek East, Lakes State this week to discuss cattle raids and revenge killings.
More than 100 representatives from the four payams attended the meeting to try to end the violence that began last year between different groups, killing over forty people.
Daniel Gumwel Nhomabur, the member of the Lakes State Assembly representing Atiaba Constituency told Radio Miraya the representatives will bring peace messages back to their communities.
“We don’t want sectional fights to continue within our community. We need people to forgive each other,” Daniel said.
“We also need to give them knowledge that the people who are responsible for security in the area are the community themselves,” he continued. “If there is any strange person who has come to rob or to do anything wrong, they should also be identified and handed to the authorities.”
