A consultative conference organized by members of civil society organizations in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal is scheduled to conclude today, Thursday, in Wau town, a civil society activist said.
Linda Fernandez Hussein, member of the local civil society originations, told Radio Tamazuj the conference focused on peaceful co-exisistance and mounting tension between local farmers and herders as well as women and child’s rights in the area.
Linda further said about 120 people participated in the conference. She added the conference is being organized by 33 local civil society organizations in collaboration with other international originations and religious leaders.
The issue of the local farmers and the herders who cross from neighbouring states has been causing insecurity in the state, according to Fernandez. The activist pointed out that the conference also discussed domestic violence and street children.
“The consultative conference is fruitful, and it will lay a solid foundation for peace in the area” she said. She added that previously conferences failed after the herders refused to graze their cattle without guns during harvest season in the area.
