Authorities in Sudan’s West Kordofan state announced that a final reconciliation conference between the Arab nomadic tribes Hamar and Ma’alia will be convened on 23 September in El Fula town.

In May 2014, forces were deployed to secure a buffer zone between the territories of the feuding Hamar and Ma’alia tribes following clashes between the two Arab tribes.  At least 29 tribesmen were reported killed and 23 others injured in fighting.

A joint meeting was held recently between West Kordofan governor, emir of the Hamar tribe, El Odeya and Ghibesh Commissioners to finalize the arrangements for the conference.

In a press statement yesterday, West Kordofan Minister of Information Asia El Dighedi said that they are ready for the meeting.

She further said tribal leaders are also working tirelessly to put an end to the differences between the two tribes in the conference.
