A peace conference between feuding communities neighbouring states of Jonglei and Boma kicked off in Gumuruk area on Tuesday, several officials told Radio Tamazuj.

A team of government officials from Jonglei led by Governor Philip Aguer met with their counterparts in Boma State to discuss matters pertaining to peaceful co-existence between the two states.

The conference was attended by the two Governors of Jonglei and Boma State, Philip Aguer Panyang and Baba Medan.

Julia James, Boma State Information Minister told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the conference was joined by the two governors of Jonglei and Boma State.

“Yes the conference was held today at Gumuruk County of Boma State but right now I cannot talk about it because I don’t have information about the resolutions of conference yet,” she said.

Julia was not sure when the conference would end but assured that she has sent officials from her ministry to brief her about the resolutions passed in the conference.

This was the first time in the history for the two tribes who practice cattle raiding and child abduction to have a peace conference since the South Sudan gained its independence.

On the other hand, the Pibor Commissioner Simon Gian also confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the conference took place on Tuesday in Kubel County which is reportedly a new name for the county of Gumuruk.
